Project Focus: Nutrition For All

Overview: We saw how people were experiencing food insecurity in school and out. We saw how many people are being affected and how it isn’t just in one place, but everywhere. What we decided to do was make a presentation about food insecurity and how it affects people. The presentation also includes how people are able to help and places where assistance is available.

Our Journey

When we started this project, I was more interested in talking about mentorship for teenagers because I think many young people need guidance and support in their lives. During our Youth Power Collective meetings, we explored different issues that affect our communities, and food insecurity became one of the topics that stood out the most to our group. At first, I saw mentorship and food insecurity as different issues, but later I realized they are connected. If a person does not have enough healthy food, it can affect their physical health, mental well-being, and ability to focus on school and other goals. As I researched the issue and talked with classmates and adults, I learned that food insecurity affects more people than I thought. I also learned that many people are embarrassed to ask for help or do not know where to find resources. Through this project, I learned that solving community problems takes people working together and supporting one another so nobody feels alone.
